What the Knowledge Platform is, and how it works
The Knowledge Platform is where the Life Mapper project explains what it learns. It turns surveys, studies and plans into short pages anyone can read, each backed by the sources it relies on.
Who it is for
- Planners and public officers who need to understand what the Nature Restoration Law asks at sea and how to choose sites.
- Researchers looking for methods, evidence and datasets from other teams.
- Students who want a structured introduction to marine habitat restoration.
- Anyone curious about why the sea floor matters and what is being done to protect it.
What you find here
- Knowledge pages. Short articles, a few minutes each, that answer one question. They are grouped in four chapters but tagged by habitat, region and method, so you can also read across chapters.
- Sources. The papers, datasets, guidelines, case studies and platforms the pages cite. You can search them on their own in the library.
- Maps. Links to the Life Mapper geoportal, where habitats and restoration sites are shown on an interactive map.
How a page is made
From a researcher's notes to a public page

Draft
A researcher of a partner institution writes the page in the editor, adds images and attaches the sources.

Review
An editor of the same institution checks content, sources and language.

Publish
The page goes live in its chapter, tagged, and becomes searchable within minutes.

Update
Pages carry their last update date and are revised when new evidence arrives.
The Life Mapper project
Life Mapper is a project co-funded by the EU LIFE programme. Its partners map marine habitats, assess their condition and support the restoration plans that EU Member States prepare under the Nature Restoration Law.

- Yes. Pages are published under CC BY 4.0: cite the page and its authors. Sources keep their own licence.
- Is it peer reviewed?
- Pages are reviewed by an editor of the authoring institution. Peer-reviewed sources are marked as such in the library.
- How do I report an error?
- Use the feedback link at the bottom of every page. We answer within a week.
